Day 7 | Rifugio Carestiato to Rifugio Fontana | Alta Via 1

Benvenuti! Welcome! I am spending the next month in Italy hiking the Alta Via 1 and exploring some of the historic cities in this beautiful country. I’m also taking this opportunity to brush up on my Italian! In this video, we trek from Rifugio Carestiato to Rifugio Pian de Fontana. We say goodbye to Elissa (as she heads down to Agordo) and Vicky (as she has one extra day on trail than we do) and continue walking! I would reconnect with Elissa later in Belluno and Vicky later in Venice. Today was the first day we encountered an actual threat of thunderstorms as we climbed the final pass of the day. I would award it with probably the sketchiest scramble of the trip, as both hands and feet were necessary to make it up and over the steep knife edge. But the rain held off, and we were greeted with a stunning view of the valley below and our next rifugio. The storm finally caught us on the descent.
