5. Etappe: „Genau an solchen Tagen kann man die Tour verlieren“

Team manager Ralph Denk discusses the fifth stage of the Tour de France in the podcast, a stage that was all about a sprint finish. The short, flat course was under the complete control of the sprinters' teams. In the end, Olav Kooij of Team Decathlon took the victory. "He's a big name. But I would have been happy for the German Max Kanter to win it in his Tour debut," says Denk. For Red Bull BORA-hansgrohe, the day went smoothly. "We warned, warned, warned. No messing around. Because it's exactly on days like these that you can lose the Tour," says the team manager. But his riders stayed focused and completed the stage without incident. In the background, Denk talks about the riders' preparation for the climatic conditions: heat training in overalls, acclimatization in the sauna. The team manager gives exclusive insights into the training. While the sprinters celebrate, the climbers look ahead to the sixth stage. The Col du Tourmalet is part of a tough route through the Pyrenees, including a mountain finish. "Like most teams, we'll react to what Team UEA does to stay in contention as long as possible," Denk announces. Photo: IMAGO / Photo News Giveaway on our Instagram account inside.tourdefrancepodcast.
