Somatic Shaking - Full Body Shake for Stress Relief - Yoga with Rachel
Welcome to your Somatic Full Body Shake practice! (↓Open for more details!). ✨ I’ve written several blog posts on somatic yoga that you might find interesting. You can learn about what somatic yoga is, the benefits, and explore somatic exercises here: https://www.yogawithrachelmarie.com/blog ✨ This somatic full body shake is intended to help you shake off anything that isn’t serving you in the present moment–whether it’s stress, unhelpful thoughts, lingering emotions, or physical tension. This practice invites you to reconnect with your body and breath. This practice is inspired by Peter Levine’s work. Levine developed Somatic Experiencing, which is an approach that taps into the body’s natural ability to heal from adverse experiences (in particular trauma). Levine explains that animals in the wild instinctively shake their bodies to release the stress and energy built up from a traumatic event. This “shaking it off” response helps animals reset and restore inner balance. Humans can also benefit from this practice, as it allows us to release stored emotions, tension, and energy from the body. This practice can provide the nervous system with a reset, helping us return back to a state of presence and balance. There’s no right or wrong way to explore this shaking practice. You’re encouraged to listen to your sensations as you explore this exercise. Your sensations can provide feedback in relation to what would feel good and nourishing in your body. This is an intuitive movement practice, so your movements may look similar or different than what I’m showing on screen. I invite you to move at a pace that feels right for you, and feel free to pause or stop the video at any point. This practice is yours to tailor. I recommend practicing in a quiet space in order to minimize external distractions. Although this practice does not include music, you’re more than welcome to turn some on if you feel that it would be helpful. I’d love to hear how this somatic shake feels in your body!
