Hiking in Fakahatchee Strand - West Janes Scenic to Mud Tram to FL Trail Loop

Things to do in Naples, FL - There are many daytrip hikes in the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve off of Janes Scenic Drive that are very adventurous and do not have to take all day. Then there are the ones that take all day. Either way, what else would you be doing? This hike was on 3/1/15, it was about 4.86 miles, and took about 4 hours. There was a lot of activity on this particular hike and was one of the better hikes that I have been on in this area. Started at the West end of Janes Scenic Drive where the Fakahatchee and Picayune meet. Then went south to Mud Tram, then East to "Florida Trail" then North to Janes and back to the start. 3:30 - Deer that snorted at me as it took off. 7:00 - Alligators in the canal sections 9:31 - more alligators 9:54 - Turkey gobble in the woods 11:20 - At the west end of Mud Tram 15:37 - At the T where Mud Tram meets the "Florida Trail" and meets the trail the goes south to Four Stakes Prairie 18:40 - Wild orchids 20:31 - Deer sighting 23:00 - Back at Janes Scenic Drive - gate 24:00 - The big alligator right on the road where I usually am looking for alligators in the pond 29:25 - Back at the start where at the West end of Janes Scenic Drive where it meets Picayune Strand State Forest Clarification on the "Florida Trail" - The section(s) of trails that everyone calls "The Florida Trail" in the Fakahatchee is actually some trails that are maintained by The Florida Trail Association. The Florida Scenic Trail actually starts in The Big Cypress National Preserve several miles to the East of Fakahatchee Strand.
