Seungbongdo Island is located in the West Sea, 42km away from Incheon Metropolitan City. It is said that about 370 years ago, two fishermen, surnamed Shin and Hwang, drifted to this island after encountering a storm. Captivated by the island's abundant resources and beautiful scenery, they brought their families and settled here. Later, the island was renamed Seungbongdo, and the descendants of the two families built a pavilion called Sinhwangjeong on a high hill to honor their ancestors. The ferry to Seungbongdo departs from Incheon Coastal Passenger Terminal every morning at 8:30 AM, and the return ferry departs at 2:40 PM. With an area of ​​2.22 km² and a coastline of 9.5 km, a one-day island trekking course is possible, taking approximately 3 to 4 hours. Seungbongdo boasts numerous attractions, including a forest bathing area, Iile Beach, Iile Walking Path, Budochi Beach and Mokseom Island, Sinhwangjeong Pavilion and Sunrise Observatory, Samhyeongje Rock and Candlestick Rock, as well as Buchaebawi Rock and Namdaemunbawi Rock. On the northern coast of Seungbongdo, there is a charming cafe called 'Jageunseonbae' (Small Senior) and a green barley field managed by the cafe owner. Although Seungbongdo is an island, it is said that the residents' primary source of income is agriculture rather than fishing, which is unique. Seungbongdo has a vast area of ​​cultivated land, including rice paddies and fields, and abundant groundwater, allowing for successful farming of rice, chili peppers, soybeans, and garlic. I heard that the residents produce enough of these agricultural products to be self-sufficient. I visited Seungbongdo on June 1st, and for the first time in a while, I enjoyed a refreshing and healing experience while trekking for about four hours—nearly circling the entire island.
