Final Destination hat uns das Fliegen schon vor Greta Thunberg madig gemacht | Fancy Reviews Kritik
Final Destination may be a soullessly composed studio production, but incredibly, the film has managed to achieve cult status... How director James Wong and screenwriter Jeffrey Reddick managed to do that, I'll explain in this review of Final Destination. 00:00 The Lost X-Files Episode 03:32 Fashion Sins of the 2000s 05:27 Target Audience: Teenagers 12:17 Scene Analysis: The Bus 13:08 Subliminal Influence 16:08 Details and Omens in the Film 19:10 Alternate Ending 20:02 Critics and Box Office 20:34 Conclusion and Rating Conclusion and Rating: Final Destination is one of those works that enjoys a legendary reputation and an immortal legacy. The idea that a plane crash can be predicted certainly still has some passengers nervously fiddling with the folding table's screw cap. The basic premise of Final Destination has become a pop-cultural reference: "Yesterday, I had a bad Final Destination moment." The actual film behind this revolutionary genre entry, however, isn't all that good. The unbearable prepubescent teenage dialogue, which reaches its absurd zenith in the character of Sean William Scott, aka Stiffler (American Pie), regularly clashes with portentous philosophical rants about death. When, in one scene, the protagonists decide to take a proper shit in the bathroom before takeoff, but then two minutes later are rambling deadly seriously about the complex plan of the almighty Death, it doesn't particularly contribute to a consistent atmosphere. Final Destination also has major pacing issues—all that FBI nonsense could have been avoided—and a few continuity blunders. Clothes suddenly dry, cars disappear, and the weather changes in reverse shot. The basic tone of the script remains original and interesting, and it's also a new spin on the slasher genre. It dispenses with a physical killer and introduces the omnipresent Death as the antagonist. The kills, modeled on a Rube Goldberg machine, are equally fascinating to this day. The cast and their look were a trip back to the 2000s – I adore that. Visually, Final Destination seems uninnovative, and for a $23 million film, some of the sets look pretty cheap. If you already know the basic idea behind Final Destination, there's not much to discover in this film and you can skip the 98-minute runtime. I give Final Destination's timelessly ingenious idea and its deadly chain reactions 6.8 out of 10.
