LoRa or LoRaWAN: What are the differences and how do you build a private LoRaWAN network from scratch? In this first episode, I explain the LoRaWAN architecture, the complete path of a data frame, and the installation of a SenseCAP M2 SX1302 EU868 gateway. This comprehensive series will culminate in real-world LoRaWAN range testing across 25 hectares, using industrial sensors, our own Wio-E5 node, and integration with Home Assistant. A few weeks ago, I presented a long-range LoRa link implemented point-to-point with two simple radio modules. This time, we're taking it to the next level by building a true private LoRaWAN network. In this first video, we'll understand why LoRaWAN exists, what differentiates it from simple point-to-point LoRa communication, and how its entire architecture works. We'll follow the complete journey of data, from its creation in a connected device to its use in an application. We will examine the role of the payload, the LoRaWAN frame, the gateway, the SX1302 hub, the MT7628 processor, and the ChirpStack server. We will conclude with the installation and configuration of the SenseCAP M2 LoRaWAN gateway using EU868, along with its local ChirpStack server.
