Pressure mounts on Uganda over media crackdown
Pressure is mounting on Uganda over an escalating crackdown on press freedom following the shutdown of major independent media outlets. The move has attracted international criticism, with U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch calling for a review of military ties with Kampala. Uganda’s ICT Minister, Justine Kasule Lumumba, defended the suspension of Nation Media Group outlets in the country, saying the action forms part of a security investigation ordered by President Yoweri Museveni. As Willy Lusige reports, concerns continue to grow over the state of media freedom and freedom of expression in Uganda.
