Government repatriates 26 Kenyans from South Africa amid anti-immigrant protests
The government has repatriated 26 Kenyans from South Africa, with 63 more expected to arrive in the country by Wednesday amid widespread anti-immigrant protests. Thousands of demonstrators today flooded the streets of South Africa’s major cities demanding that undocumented migrants leave the country. The protests follow weeks of violence and intimidation that have forced many foreigners, including fellow Africans, to flee. As Emily Chebet reports, the State Department for Diaspora Affairs has urged Kenyans in South Africa to remain vigilant and advised those in need of assistance to contact the Kenyan High Commission in Pretoria.
