This Free Dresser Deserved Better…

I found this dresser thanks to a curb-alert post on Facebook — there were originally three free dressers on the curb, but by the time I arrived (about 10 minutes later!) only one was left… so I scooped it up and brought it home for a full furniture makeover. For this transformation, I drew inspiration from a beautiful black floral dress I saw on Pinterest — it had dramatic black fabric, romantic florals, and bronze lace details. I wanted to recreate that same moody, elegant, fashion-inspired aesthetic on this piece of furniture. I started by cleaning the dresser with a vinegar-and-water solution and then wiped it down with a clean damp cloth to rinse. Since the top was laminate, I primed it using Dixie Belle’s Boss (Clear), which works as an adhesive bonding primer. For the base color, I painted the piece in Dixie Belle Caviar — a rich, deep black that really set the tone for the rest of the design. To bring in the floral elements, I used the IOD “Collage De Fleurs” furniture transfer. I also created decorative mold details using: • Let’s Resin polyurethane resin • IOD molds • Redesign with Prima pre-made polyurethane molds Once the molds were applied, I painted them in Caviar, added additional floral transfers, and finished them with gilding wax to give them that bronze lace-style shimmer inspired by the dress. The final look is dark, romantic, feminine, and dramatic — and I’m so happy with how closely it captures the fashion inspiration behind it.
