AZHT: How to Properly use Spurs on a Horse - STAY SOFT
Learn how to use spurs properly to disengage a horses hind quarter. Spurs are not meant to stab or kick the horse they are used to roll and be light with it. Get your horse used to the spurs on the ground first, take the time to roll the spur softly on both sides till they are comfortable with the noise and feel of it. Let them smell it and feel it with their nose if they are weary. If your horse has not seen or felt a spur, they may spook and become reactive. Therefore, it is important that you reassure them that it is not harmful on the ground first. As always it take time, patience, and practice! Soft Hands, Soft Horse!
