Szkoła na nowo | Dlaczego młodzi nauczyciele odchodzą ze szkoły? Sławomir Broniarz wyjaśnia
The latest report by researchers from the University of Warsaw shows that as many as 49% of young teachers who have been teaching for less than five years are considering a career change. Currently, there is a shortage of approximately 20,000 teachers in Polish institutions. Why don't young people want to work in schools? "It's not just about money. It's also about working conditions, relationships within the workplace, relationships with parents, and the enormous difficulty of practicing this profession today. Today, it's not just about teaching, but also a whole host of things they are obligated to do. A teacher is a person for everything – from providing psychological support and acting as a mediator at school or in the family, to organizing various events in the municipality, city, or district, such as commemorative events," said Sławomir Broniarz, president of the Polish Teachers' Union, a guest on the "Szkoła na nowo" podcast. The union leader points out that in recent years, a particular problem with parents has been observed. "Behind every young person are parents, who don't always want to cooperate. Today, they are increasingly turning into reviewers who know everything best," said Broniarz. "Schools demand too much from young people without giving them much in return." Has the new leadership at the Ministry of National Education met teachers' expectations? During the podcast, we also discussed the growing tutoring market, low teacher salaries, students from Ukraine, and those with special educational needs. "We have children who require special care, and many of them should be sent to special schools. But parents don't consent. Teachers have to deal with this," said Broniarz. How? According to Broniarz, reducing class sizes and using all the money the school receives for such a child to organize learning support would help. "Nowadays, this money is often used to patch school budgets," said Broniarz. We also asked the head of the education unions whether the new leadership had met teachers' expectations. "There will be nine seconds of silence from Lewandowski," replied Broniarz.
