In this episode, we feature the Hagi Station, located in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This charming station building, boasting 99 years of history, stands out with its white walls and pale green color. KRY Yamaguchi Broadcasting announcer Reiji Yamada and first-class architect Masahiko Harada delve into the unique design and historical significance of this station. Built in 1925, more than 50 years after Japan's first railway opened, the delay in modernization is attributed to historical factors, such as the relocation of the political center to the San'in region following the Battle of Sekigahara. The station's design incorporates the Western "half-timbered method," harmonizing with traditional Japanese architecture. Inside the station, you’ll find exhibits on railway history and the legacy of Hagi Station, with a nostalgic wooden ticket gate being a highlight. The feature also introduces the engineering expertise developed during the early days of Japan's railways and pays homage to Masaru Inoue, known as the "Father of Japan's Railways."
