Summiting 14er Pikes Peak to celebrate our 14th anniversary #hiking #pikespeak

We came out to Colorado for our 1 year anniversary and failed to summit Pike's Peak, one of colorado's most famous 14ers. My wife had the idea of summiting a 14er for our 14 year anniversary. Pikes is fairly easy for a couple reasons: -It's not very technical -It has a base camp half way up (food, water, shelter, people) -There is a train and a souviner shop at the summit. Plenty of ways to get down if you can't hike. Pikes is also fairly hard for a couple reasons: -Parking stinks, need to arrive by 4:30am for a chance at the trail head parking -It's long, 13 miles one way. For comparison Quandary is around 4.5 miles one way. Sound round trip is still shorter than one way up Pikes -Lastly you start around 6,300 Elevation, that's almost 8,000 feet of elevation gain. For comparison, Quandry begins at 10,500 Elv. All in all the hike had it's ups and downs... get it.
