Unsolved: The Ronda Taylor & Bonnie Ryther Mystery

In July 1990, 27-year-old Ronda Taylor was found stabbed to death inside her car on Tupelo Avenue in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Nearly a decade later, a convicted killer named Mark Riebe claimed responsibility for her murder, along with a dozen others. But then he took it back. More than ten years earlier, in April 1978, 19-year-old Bonnie Ryther was discovered in a shallow grave behind Ferry Park in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She had last been seen leaving a nightclub and never made it home. When Mark Riebe later described killing a young woman in Fort Walton Beach in 1978, investigators believed Bonnie could be one of his victims. Both cases remained unsolved for years. Now, Detective Michael Wilson of the Fort Walton Beach Police Department is re-examining decades-old evidence, including beer cans and vehicle upholstery, using modern DNA technology. Could new forensic testing finally confirm whether Mark Riebe was telling the truth in his original confession? Or was he fabricating stories to appear more dangerous than he was? After more than 45 years in Bonnie Ryther’s case and over 30 years in Ronda Taylor’s case, new testing may finally reveal whether one of Florida’s most notorious alleged killers was responsible or if the real perpetrator is still unidentified.
