Coaster spotted on Metrolink by JonRailVideos in 2023 ft. former NCTD 2105 on BNSF at Commerce, CA Back in 2023, we had a few chances to catch some Coaster equipment moving on Metrolink trains and rails as the locomotives needed wheel-turning(truing?) repairs. And with part of the line being out of service in San Clemente, Coaster had to send a few deadhead 1 loco/2 car or 2 loco/1 car special moves from Stuart Mesa in early to mid-2023. 0:05 On 1/7/23, we spotted a pair of Coaster cars including NCTF/NCTC 2301 with a mix of two schemes on the cab and NCTC 5003 on the other end at CMF Taylor yard in Los Angeles, CA. 0:42 On 1/12/23, we spotted the same Coaster special from before with NCTD/NCTC 2301 on point with another bombardier car and NCTC 5003 shoving racing an EB BNSF local in Los Nietos/Santa Fe Springs, CA. 1:29 On 2/2/23, we followed another Coaster special and found it at CMF Taylor in Los Angeles, CA with NCTC 5004, NCTC/NCTD 3002 F59PHI, and NCTC 2308. 5:13 On 2/28/23, we happened to notice another Coaster special haul through SNC railcam and caught up to it at Pioneer Blvd near Los Nietos/Pico Rivera, CA with NCTD/NCTC 3001 F59PHI on the point with railcars NCTC 2403 & NCTC 2308 bombardier cars. 6:35 On 3/5/23, we catch the same Coaster special from 2/28/23 with NCTC 3001/NCTC 2403/NCTC 2308 on the back of Metrolink train 608. It would leave LAUPT but not make it far and return to CMF Taylor a few hours later. The train would deadhead without another Metrolink set a few days later. 24:35 On 3/31/23, we found another Coaster special parked out at CMF although the charger would get the wheel work done at the moment so it was in the shop. The cars were left outside in the meantime. 25:37 On 4/3/23, we luckily got some slightly better shots of the special from 3/31st as it deadheads back to Stuart Mesa with NCTC 5002 on the point through Los Nietos/Santa Fe Springs, CA with an all-new scheme set. 27:04 On 6/1/23, we find yet another Coaster special at CMF Taylor with a wrapped car as 1st of two cars this time with NCTC 5005. Was unable to figure out when it left until too late like most inbound runs. 28:08 Although on 8/1/23, we had a chance to get another Coaster on Metrolink...although with OC Line service having resumed to Oceanside, the engine was able to tag onto M609 & M608. On this day, M608 was towing Coaster charger NCTC 5001 back to Oceanside on the tail facing out. Think NCTC 5004 would come up once more in October but had no time to spare for it. However, we did encounter one last Coaster painted unit, former NCTD 2105 at BNSF's Commerce yard on 1/7/23(29:41) and 9/26/23(30:12) awaiting transport to SCRM in Perris, CA.
