Marcos Contreras) https://iwcb.org.au Guest musician, charango: Marco Fields    / @marcofieldsmusic   El Mercado de Testaccio (The Market in Testaccio), is one of the most popular songs by Chilean folk music group Inti-Illimani, released in 1981 on their album _Palimpsesto_. The title refers to a lively neighbourhood food market in the city of Rome. It was written by Horacio Salinas, the band's guitarist and co-founder, during a time of upheaval for the band. After six years of playing together, Inti-Illimani was touring Europe during the 1973 Chilean coup d'etat, when socialist president Allende was overthrown and civilian rule ended in Chile. Due to the band's support for the Allende government, the band found themselves in exile for the following 15 years, during which time they based themselves in Italy. This lively and melodious piece expresses love for the place that welcomed the band members with open arms, and simultaneously a wistful nostalgia for the place they were forced to leave. Our Conductor - Joshua McNulty: Graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium in 2015, Joshua is a conductor, composer and educator. Primarily a reed player, he has recently started to dive into brass instruments in addition to his conducting and education work. His studies with Dr John Lynch and Dr Anthony Clarke helped him build a solid foundation in conducting which have grown significantly while working with The FilmHarmonia Orchestra (founder and MD) the Inner West Community Band (MD), the Macquarie University Symphony Orchestra, the Canaria Scoring Orchestra, the Wellington Players, and the Strathfield Symphony Orchestra. As an educator, Joshua directs numerous school bands across Sydney as well as tutoring many students on their instruments. Joshua has always had a keen interest in music written with a narrative, especially as a composer and is very grateful to have had works premiered by both FilmHarmonia and IWCB. Joshua is especially proud to be given the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the Australian wind band community through his appointment as MD of the Inner West Community Band.
