'Ame ~ Mizu to Hikari no Fantasia' performed by NUS Guitar Ensemble at Springtide, held at NUS University Cultural Centre Theatre, Singapore, on 13th March 2022. Ame (Fantasia of Light and Rain), paints a picturesque soundscape of the rainy season in Japan. The piece depicts the rainy season of tsuyu (“plum rain”), aptly named as it coincides with the ripening of plum blossoms, which is present during the transition of spring to summer. The rainy period usually prevents tourists from visiting as the heavy rain causes mudslides. Ame captures the uncertainty during this season, with both the serenity and turbulence of its wet weather. With a nearly 40-year-long history, the group boasts a wide repertoire ranging from major classical works to Japanese anime themes. In accordance with the Niibori method, GENUS utilises a set of guitars with varying pitches to produce an orchestral effect.
