Orion | Odyssey by NUS Guitar Ensemble

‘Orion’ performed by NUS Guitar Ensemble at Odyssey, held at NUS University Cultural Centre Theatre, Singapore, on 12th March 2023. Inspired by the famous meteor shower Orionid, Orion metaphorises shooting stars skimming through the night sky. The various changes in rhythm represent the different aspects of the captivating Orionid meteors, whether in the form of a lone shooting star or a bustling meteor shower. The fast paced runs in Orion’s chorus allows one to visualise themselves traversing through the night, enveloped by the light of the surrounding stars. Composed by DANROK member Yuudai Hatanaka for the 50th Japan School Guitar Ensemble Contest in 2019, this award-winning piece takes its audience on a trip around the vast universe. Composed by Yuudai Hatanaka About us 🎸 NUS Guitar Ensemble (GENUS) is a student-run guitar ensemble located in the National University of Singapore, and a member of NUS Centre For the Arts. With a nearly 40-year-long history, the group boasts a wide repertoire ranging from major classical works to Japanese anime themes. In accordance with the Niibori method, GENUS utilises a set of guitars with varying pitches to produce an orchestral effect.
