Since 1905, it is served by the District Railway which is now known as the London Underground District line and is on the Wimbledon branch of the line. Trains from platform 2 go to Wimbledon and trains from platform 1 go towards Earl's Court (the hub of all District Line services), Edgware Road, Victoria, Embankment, Tower Hill, Barking and Upminster. Southfields station is also the closest Underground station to the Wimbledon Tennis grounds and is heavily used during the Wimbledon championships.
