Galway Signal Cabin - 27 August 1991
A look back to Galway railway station in August 1991 capturing Padraig Gannon on duty in the signal cabin facilitating the shunting of the mid day passenger service from Dublin Heuston. The service from Heuston was hauled by 085 comprised of Mark 2 coaching stock. The train also included the common sight at the time of a TPO (travelling post office) and BR guards van. The shunt included dropping these to the bay platform for An Post. The TPO service ceased to both Galway and Cork in January 1994 while the signal cabin in Galway finally closed in 2003 with the introduction of CTC signalling on the railway to Galway.
