Understanding Pneumocystis Jirovecii Pneumonia (PJP)
From the 2025 Pediatric Transplant Conference, part of National Pediatric Transplant Week and National Donate Life Month. Chapters: 00:00 What is PJP? 03:50 Treating PJP 16:04 Recognizing PJP 23:40 Q&A This session is designed to give patients and families the information needed to feel confident in protecting against Pneumocystis Jirovecii Pneumonia (PJP) after a pediatric transplant. We'll explain why transplant can make kids more susceptible to this lung infection in a way that's easy to understand. We'll focus on recognizing early warning signs, like a dry cough or trouble breathing, so you know when to reach out to your care team. We'll also cover the importance of daily preventative medicine and how to manage any side effects. Most importantly, we'll talk about how to work together with your child’s doctors and nurses, and where to find support, so you never feel alone in this journey. We want to empower you with knowledge and practical tips to keep your child healthy and thriving. We would like thank the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society's Standardizing Care Committee, whose work was crucial to this presentation.
