60. It Is Enough | Jacob, Joseph & Facing Death (Genesis 45–46)
In Genesis 45–46, Jacob — the man who spent his whole life grabbing for more — finally says, "It is enough." What changes a heart that's never satisfied? For twenty years Jacob lived under a cloud of grief, certain that everything was against him. Then the news comes: Joseph is still alive, and ruler over all Egypt. Jacob's heart goes numb — it's too good to be true. But when he sees the wagons Joseph sent, his spirit revives — a kind of death and resurrection — and Israel says, "It is enough. I will go and see him before I die." This message follows Jacob down to Egypt, the land of death, where God meets him with promises: I am the God of your father, do not be afraid, I will go down with you, and I will bring you up again. With Joseph as a picture of the risen Christ, the sermon asks how any of us can face death with contentment. The answer isn't getting more of what this life offers — it's lifting our eyes to the Giver, the God who is not the God of the dead but of the living, who brings life out of the grave. This life is a vapor; resurrection is our hope. And so, like Jacob, we can stop grabbing, receive each day as a gift, and say even today: it is enough. In this message: Jacob the "grabber" — and the despair of a man for whom nothing was ever enough (Genesis 37) "Joseph is still alive": a heart gone numb and a spirit revived (Genesis 45:26–28) Joseph as a type of Christ — the favored son out of an empty tomb Down to Egypt, the land of death — and worship at Beersheba (Genesis 46:1) God's promises in the night: "I will go down with you... and bring you up again" (Genesis 46:2–4) The reunion and Jacob's rest: "Now I can die, for I have seen your face" (Genesis 46:30) God of the living, not the dead — the case for resurrection (Matthew 22; 1 Corinthians 15) Stop grabbing: how death buries our idols and frees us to enjoy life (Ecclesiastes 9) If you're weary from chasing a life that never feels like enough — or grieving at a grave — this is for you. Death is not the end of the story. The God who raises the dead invites you to rest, today, in promises that reach beyond the grave. 📖 Scripture: Genesis 45:26–28; 46:1–4, 28–30 (with Ecclesiastes 9:7–10; Matthew 22:31–32; 1 Corinthians 15:20, 58; Philippians 1:21) 🎬 From our verse-by-verse series through Genesis at Fellowship Bible Church Shenandoah.
