Chair Yoga to Stimulate Your Vestibular System

The vestibular system is part of your sensory system that plays a key role in helping your maintain your balance. While your vestibular system is stimulated any time you move your body, you can work more directly with it when you deliberately move your head, neck, and eyes. The main vestibular structures in your inner ear sense the position and movement of your head in relation to gravity and relay this information to your brain to help you stay balanced. Your eyes, of course, also relay your position to your brain. In this gentle Chair Yoga class, you'll stimulate and challenge your vestibular system with coordinated neck and eye movements, both seated and standing and balancing. These movements will also reduce neck and shoulder tension! Vestibular stimulation helps to quiet mental chatter and can give you a sense of tranquility afterwards. We end this class with a simple peripheral vision exercise that will help you feel calm and relaxed. Looking for more ways to practice with me?
