FREIO do LÁBIO CURTO na AMAMENTAÇÃO. Saiba IDENTIFICAR!
A short labial frenulum during breastfeeding can also be a problem, as can a short lingual frenulum. They are usually less "famous" than the lingual frenulum and, for this reason, represent a silent risk to breastfeeding! It should be noted that both the upper and lower lips need to be evaluated for shortening of their respective frenula. The lips need to have mobility to allow the baby to make the famous "fish mouth" when at the mother's breast. Not being able to position the lips correctly on the mother's breast makes it difficult for the baby to latch on, preventing the baby from having a good seal when attaching to the mother's breast, making it impossible to create the vacuum necessary for effective suction. This difficulty for the baby in achieving the correct latch due to a shortened labial frenulum can cause sores on the mother's breast, as well as other complications due to inefficient milk removal from the mother's breasts and, ultimately, can lead to premature weaning. A short labial frenulum can sometimes occur in conjunction with a shortened frenulum of the tongue, commonly known as tongue-tie. This can exacerbate difficulties in the baby's latch, as well as the consequent problems arising from this situation. One sign that the baby may have a shortened labial frenulum is the production of "clicking" sounds during breastfeeding. This sound comes from the loss of seal during suction. A baby who loses this seal several times during breastfeeding may end up swallowing air. This can result in colic and discomfort for the baby, which can sometimes even be confused with reflux symptoms. A characteristic of a baby who is unable to maintain a good latch due to a shortened labial frenulum is the appearance of a "callus" on the lip. This "callus" can often be normal, but attention should be paid when it appears in conjunction with other symptoms. To correct a shortened labial frenulum, all that's needed is an evaluation by a qualified professional followed by microsurgery, which has a quick recovery. The benefits this surgery can bring to breastfeeding should be considered, given that studies have shown that 80% of mothers whose children underwent the surgery noticed a small or moderate improvement in breastfeeding. ...
