Saiba como o QUEIXO do BEBÊ pode ATRAPALHAR a AMAMENTAÇÃO! Retrognatia do bebê, "queixo pra trás"
Retrognathia, or retrognathism, is when a baby's chin is set slightly further back. Every baby is born with their chin slightly set back, and this happens because of how they develop inside their mother's womb during gestation, with their head lowered, close to their chest in a tight space for a long time, a condition known as physiological retrognathia, which is normal. The muscles in the jaw area will develop as the baby stimulates them during breastfeeding with the sucking motion, and the tendency is that by around the 3rd month of life the baby's chin will be in normal condition. The same does not apply to bottle feeding, as the movement performed is much simpler and does not compare to the complexity of the sucking motion performed during breastfeeding. Some scholars say that to get an idea of the degree of retrognathia in a baby, an imaginary line should be drawn perpendicular to the tip of the baby's upper lip towards the baby's chin. If the distance from the baby's chin to this line is greater than 1 cm, it would be a case of paying closer attention to retrognathia. To try to compensate for more severe retrognathia in a baby, the mother should strive to bring the baby to the breast with a more refined technique, so that he can express milk more efficiently. Associated with retrognathia, it is common for the baby to have a tongue with limited mobility. This makes it even more difficult for the baby to express milk. To control the problem of retrognathia in the baby, the mother should ensure an asymmetrical latch, which helps the baby to take more of the areola with the lower part of the mouth, helping him to express milk more efficiently. Bringing the baby very close to the mother with his head slightly tilted back gives an advantage to the movement of the baby's jaw during expression. Breastfeeding in a semi-reclined position also helps, as the baby will be coming from above and the force of gravity will help them to have a deeper latch, which is something they will have more difficulty doing because of retrognathia. Mothers with babies who have retrognathia should pay attention to vasospasm in the nipple, also known as Raynaud's phenomenon. This can happen because the baby with retrognathia uses a lot of pressure when expressing milk and because of their difficulty in achieving a deep latch and the low mobility of their tongue. Most babies with retrognathia will already be breastfeeding better around 3 months of age, so with enough technique and patience, the mother can overcome this period. ...
