We’re Finally Making Progress… UK Farmhouse Renovation (Ep.17)

Farmhouse renovation UK update, we thought it was roof prep… then the chimneys told a different story. This week began with guttering and fascia removal, and the usual “let’s just see what we’re dealing with” moment. What we found behind it was classic old house territory: moisture, damp, and timber that’s clearly had a long life. Then everything slowed down. Jonah under the weather, and me stepping straight into dad mode. So the week became a balance of family care and practical progress where I could find it, including a full-on garden day and a Facebook Marketplace run that ended with a lawn sweeper and a very pleased little co-pilot. When we got properly stuck into the roof again, it became clear the chimneys weren’t a small job. Leaning, cracked, and beyond repair, so we took them down carefully, cleaned and saved the bricks, and rebuilt using lime mortar and the right materials (which, it turns out, takes nearly as long to source as it does to use). There was a moment this week where I felt properly overwhelmed but getting back into the work helped.
