'Reusing energy data: working towards a smarter and greener Europe' data.europa academy

This webinar explored how the secondary use of energy data can help address key challenges in the European energy ecosystem. It highlights how the reuse of operational data can support smarter grid planning and enable the integration of higher shares of renewable energy. Participants gained insights into how initiatives such as the COSMIC project are working across Europe to optimise energy use, and how these developments connect to the wider European agenda on open data and data sharing. The session opened with a policy perspective from Andries de Brouwer, Policy Officer at DG ENER, who will discuss the role of energy data in strengthening grid resilience and supporting Europe’s energy and climate objectives. His presentation also addressed policy and governance considerations related to sharing energy data across sectors. This was followed by a practical use case from the European energy project COSMIC, presented by Adrián Carrasco Revilla, lead data scientist at Inetum. Drawing on large‑scale pilots across Europe, he demonstrated how shared energy data is used to optimise energy consumption and resource management, helping organisations better understand energy systems, reduce consumption, and integrate renewable energy more effectively. The webinar concludes with an interactive Q&A session, allowing direct engagement with the speakers. 0:00 Opening and introduction 5:43 Energy data exchange in the EU - Andries De Brouwer 27:18 Cosmic: in the middle of a long winding road - Adrian Carrasco Revilla 45:38 Q&A session and closing remarks Follow our channel to stay updated on upcoming data.europa academy webinars and new learning content!
