'Open data, academia, and ethics: fostering trust through data-based reasoning' data.europa academy
To kick off our webinar series on ‘Open data, academia, and ethics’, we will explore how open data and emerging technologies shape research integrity, knowledge production, and public trust. This webinar aims to show how data-based arguments are constructed in academic and AI-supported research and why transparency at the level of data is not sufficient to ensure integrity. In this webinar, Dr. Elfia Bezou Vrakatseli, a researcher in AI and argumentation at Inria, will highlight potentially manipulative data-based arguments, allowing participants to strengthen their ability to spot such manipulation. She will also explain how even the use of high-quality open data may lead to misleading or weak reasoning and how to avoid such pitfalls. Joining her is Dr. Ameer Saadat-Yazdi, a researcher in natural language reasoning and argumentation at Inria, who will share insights into the nuances of human reasoning, how these nuances indicate that humans do not reason like computers, and why it is crucial to teach computers to reason like us in order to navigate the complexities of real-world data effectively. The webinar concludes with an interactive Q&A session, allowing direct engagement with the speakers. 0:00 Opening and introduction 5:31 Spotting manipulation in data-based arguments - Elfia Bezou-Vrakatseli 25:55 How misleading or weak forms of reasoning can arise - Ameer Sadaat-Yazdi 42:05 Q&A session and closing remarks Follow our channel to stay updated on upcoming data.europa academy webinars and new learning content!
