In this video, our literature teacher summarizes the second chapter of Part 2 of Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. Remember that the first chapter focused on Charles and Emma's wait. At the end of Chapter 1, the couple finally arrives. This is the introduction to the new characters. This chapter is a veritable dialogue of the deaf. During dinner, the characters talk a great deal, but without listening to each other. It's grotesque. Homais, the pharmacist, interrupts the others with long, pointless monologues. Across the table, Léon and Emma get along very well.
