Izumo Kaido Shinjo-juku Nogaisen Sakura Street Gaisen means "triumphant return," and they were planted on both sides of the road to commemorate the victory in the Russo-Japanese War. This street was a post town on the Izumo Kaido road, and was once a very lively place, with main inns and side inns where the lord of Matsue domain and others would rest on their way to Edo. This village in northern Okayama Prefecture has been designated as "the most beautiful village in Japan," and you can enjoy the historic cherry blossoms and the charm of the roads. Today I would like to take a walk around Shinjo Village.
