EU SÓ FUI SER FELIZ AMANDO OUTRA MULHER | Na minha época era assim #02
Nelsa grew up amidst many conflicts with her mother, abuse from her stepfather and other men, and she always felt deeply sad about it. She only found true happiness when she fell in love with another woman. Nelsa's family came to Brazil as refugees from Angola when she was still very young. As soon as she arrived in Brazil with her parents and brother, her father ran away from home without leaving any traces, and her mother ended up getting involved with a neighbor. When the two got married, this neighbor turned out to be an abusive husband and an abusive stepfather. The man drugged Nelsa and her brother and took them to the closet in their bedroom. When she told the story to her grandmother, who went to get satisfaction from Nelsa's mother, the situation turned into chaos and the girl was questioned and called a liar. A short time later, Nelsa's mother caught her ex-husband with her daughter in the closet. After all this violence, Nelsa, still very young, felt a sense of death, a deep sadness that robbed her of the sparkle of life. She didn't feel happy and this feeling stayed with her throughout her childhood and adolescence. She felt guilty. When she was around 17 or 18 years old, Nelsa started working and another girl at work started flirting with her. Until then, she had never been emotionally involved with anyone and didn't even want to, but this flirtation awakened something in her that had never been awakened before. One fine day, this work friend kissed her and it made Nelsa go crazy. That whole day she worked as if she were on cloud nine, she didn't care about anything because the feeling of having kissed that girl was incredible. And from the kiss on, she understood what would make her escape from that feeling of death. Life began to shine again there. Since then, she started to distance herself from the people who contaminated her life and made her unhappy. Today, Nelsa is 50 years old, married to Claudia, and according to her, she is one of the happiest people in the world. Her big smile shows us that it is true! Nelsa's story is part of the series "In my time it was like this", with five stories of people from the LGBTQIA+ community over 50 years old. The idea is to provide a counterpoint to those phrases we sometimes hear "in my time there was nothing like that", "in my time it wasn't like this".
