Movats pentachrome
Finally, the long awaiting video for Movat's Pentachrome! Despite the length and complicated nature of this stain, it is actually quite straight forward once you break it down into its three key steps; (1) a stain for acidic mucosubstances (Alcian Blue), (2) an elastin stain, and (3) a trichrome stain. The video also examines the requirement for a lengthy treatment with alkaline alcohol following staining with Alcian Blue. This step is often employed in an effort to stabilise Alcian Blue staining, so what happens if you leave it out? The results are interesting!!
