Trains at West Footscray during Peak Hour; Metro & V/Line Trains - Melbourne Transport [4K]
In this video we visit West Footscray, a station on the Sunbury Line in Melbourne's inner west. We visit the station during the morning peak to see various Metro and V/Line trains. We see Comeng and Siemens trains, plus a lone High Capacity Metro Train. On the adjacent Regional Rail Link tracks we see V/Line Vlocity DMU's as well as N452 on the morning service to Swan Hill. The Swan Hill train is the last V/Line locomotive-hauled service to use N Class locomotives with N Set carriages. The main purpose of this video was to film express Metro trains passing West Footscray station. During the morning and afternoon peaks there are four trains in the peak direction that run express between Sunshine and Footscray. When the Metro Rail Tunnel opens in the coming months express trains at West Footscray will likely become a thing of the past as all trains will need to stop at West Footscray. This is because West Footscray is the changeover point between the CBTC high-capacity signalling used in the Metro Rail Tunnel, and the conventional block signalling used on the rest of the Sunbury Line. West Footscray station opened on the 1st October 1888 as Footscray West, but it was renamed to West Footscray on the 1st September 1912. The original station had its station buildings rebuilt in 1976. As part of the Regional Rail Link project the old station was demolished in 2013 and a new station was built 200 meters west to accommodate two extra tracks in the area for regional V/Line trains. The new station opened on the 14th October 2013. On the 6th July 2020 a new third platform was built as part of the Metro Rail Tunnel project. This new platform 1 will for citybound trains will allow the old platform 1 (now platform 2) to function as a turnback platform. It had been fenced off after the new platform 1 opened, but it is now open for business as testing for the Metro Rail Tunnel ramps up.
