VIDA SILVESTRE en CANADÁ: Visitando Pequeñas Comunidades en la ISLA DE VANCOUVER, Columbia Británica

In this video, we continue our trip around Vancouver Island, this time visiting three small communities in the north of the island where we got to see some Canadian wildlife. First, we visited Port Hardy, where we happened to come across a bald eagle fishing in the bay. We were very excited to see the eagle and started filming and taking photos, while the locals were very relaxed about this fact—they must see the eagle every day! Then, in the town of Port McNeill, we stopped to visit the world's largest burl. A burl is a type of knot formed in trees, and this knot weighed 22 tons! It was a unique attraction; something we had never seen, nor imagined we would find. And finally, we visited Telegraph Cove, a coastal community of just 20 people. This is a very small place, but very picturesque and touristy, as boats depart from here to see grizzly bears and go whale watching. While we were walking through this community, we came across two deer eating the flowers of a bush. And that was our day exploring the small communities of northern Vancouver Island. We hope you enjoyed seeing some wildlife in Canada, and we'll see you in the next episodes, where we'll be traveling by ferry to visit other nearby islands. 🌲🚗 Touring North Vancouver Island: Small Towns, History, and Wildlife 🌊🦅 👋🌥️ Starting the Day in Port Alice and Exploring Remote Villages Good morning everyone from the porch in Port Alice, a small corner of Vancouver Island where, even though the day is cloudy, the air is fresh and peaceful. Today's plan is quite ambitious: to visit three remote villages – Port Hardy, Port McNeill, and Telegraph Cove. The area is incredibly peaceful, with fewer than a thousand inhabitants per village, surrounded by nature and water everywhere. Here, every house has its fishing boat parked outside: legendary salmon and trout are part of daily life, and fishing is a sport and a tradition. The region's other major economic driver is the timber industry, visible in the roads, sawmills, and freshly cut boards. A bit of tourism supplements the economy, but peace and quiet reign. 💨🔌 Renewable Energy and Technology in the Midst of Nature On the outskirts of Port Hardy, we make a special stop to see one of the giant blades of a windmill, part of the Cape Scott Wind Project, which provides electricity to the entire region. This blade is 80 meters long and is a symbol of the advancement of clean energy on the island. Further along, we find an electric car charging station – a sign of how even the most remote corners of Canada are preparing for the future. By 2030, the goal is for 90% of cars in Canada to be electric, and the transformation has already begun even in the smallest towns. 🦅🐟 Wildlife: Bald Eagles, Seagulls, and Salmon At the water's edge, seagulls and crows fight over a salmon while a bald eagle soars overhead, living up to its historic name (“bald eagle” in Old English means “white eagle”). These are daily encounters here, where wildlife is on display and we still have hope of seeing a cougar or a bear before the trip is over. 🌳🌲 Nature and Relics: The World's Largest Burl In Port McNeill, we stopped to see the world's largest burl (or tree burl), found at the base of a 350-year-old pine tree over 79 meters tall. We also discovered historical relics like the Steam Donkey, one of the first machines used to pull giant logs from old-growth forests, pieces that are now part of the local heritage. 🛶🌊 Logging Tradition: Log Pens and River Transport Passing along the coast, we see the famous log pens ("booms"), a Canadian and North American tradition: logs tied and floating, ready to be towed to sawmills or shipped for export. This ancient method is still used and is a symbol of the region. 🏘️☕ Telegraph Cove: History, Museums, and Relaxation The last destination of the day is Telegraph Cove, a small museum-village built on wooden stilts, with just 15 or 20 numbered houses, each displaying the history of each family. We visited the Orca and Whale Museum, where we learned about marine life and the importance of this harbor for orca, whale, and grizzly bear watching. We relaxed at the classic Café Heller with carrot cake and cappuccino—a perfect way to end the afternoon. Important: Wildlife tours tend to sell out quickly, so if you're planning to travel, book early! WILDLIFE IN CANADA: Visiting Small Communities on VANCOUVER ISLAND, British Columbia:
