"Born in 1981, Tokyo Prefecture. After graduating from Japan Women’s University Senior High School, Fumino graduated from the faculty of education at Waseda University.He realised that he is transgender when he was an elementary school student, and now he is declaring this openly. In 2004, Fumino was elected as the representative from Japan for women’s fencing.At the graduate school of Waseda University, he studied “sexual minorities and education.” In 2006, he pubulished an autobiography, which caused big news, based on his studies and daily experiences. After graduation, he travelled around the world, including the South Pole for two years as a backpacker and faced a lot of social problems.Fumino now manages his own restaurant. He also serves as a representive of the NPO School of Connecting the Hearts to help sexual-minority kids, and travels around Japan to give lectures, and so on." 1981年東京都新宿生まれ。日本女子大学附属の幼、小、中、高を経て、早稲田大学教育学部を卒業。小学生時代に自分が女子であることに気づき、驚いたという。自身がトランスジェンダーであることを公言している。2004年にはフェンシング女子日本代表に選ばれる。2006年、大学院での研究テーマである「セクシュアルマイノリティと教育」と自身の体験談を織り交ぜた書籍を出版し、大きな反響をよんだ。その後、2年間バックパッカーとして世界約50ヶ国＋南極を旅し、様々な社会問題と向き合う。そのほか、多数のTVやラジオ出演、NPO法人「グリーンバード」、「シブヤ大学」に携わるなど、その活動は多岐にわたる。現在は自ら飲食店を経営するかたわら、セクシュアルマイノリティの子どもたちを応援するNPO法人「ハートをつなごう学校」の運営や、各地での講演などを行っている This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
