自分を愛する事。そして土の上で裸足になろう! Love Yourself, Barefoot on the Earth. | Rola ローラ | TEDxMarunouchi

Despite building a glamorous career as a model and talent, Rola has experienced physical and mental health issues and identity struggles. Raised between Japanese and Bangladeshi cultures, and after living in America, she re-examined the meaning of "true self." Through decluttering, exercise, the tea ceremony, and her encounter with agriculture in the mountains of Niigata, she realized the importance of living mindfully in harmony with nature. In this talk, she will discuss the often-lost connection between mind and body in modern society, the mindfulness inherent in Japanese culture, and her relationship with food and nature, all based on her own life experiences. What does it mean to live authentically? How can we reclaim what is truly important in our busy daily lives? This is a story of healing and rebirth, shared through Rola's real-life experiences. After building a successful career as a model and television personality, Rola found herself struggling with burnout, anxiety, and a loss of identity. Raised between Japanese and Bangladeshi cultures, and later transformed by her experiences in the United States, she began questioning what it truly means to live authentically. Through movement, minimalism, the Japanese tea ceremony, and eventually farming in the mountains of Niigata, Rola rediscovered the importance of living in harmony with nature and caring for both mind and body. In this talk, she shares her personal journey of healing and self-discovery while exploring mindfulness in Japanese culture, food sustainability, and humanity's relationship with nature. This is a story about reclaiming authenticity in a fast-moving world—and rediscovering what truly nourishes us. Rola was born in Japan in 1990. She has a Japanese mother and a Bangladeshi father. She debuted as a model at the age of 16 and has been active in a wide range of fields, including fashion magazines, television, and film, based in Japan. After living in Los Angeles for about 10 years, she moved to Japan. Currently, she works in agriculture, while also visiting Niigata, where her mother's roots are, and is sharing the charm of a lifestyle, food, and culture in harmony with nature both domestically and internationally. Rola is an international Japanese pop culture icon, celebrity, TV personality, singer, actress, and model born of Japanese and Bengali descent After spending nearly ten years in Los Angeles, she began to reflect more deeply on her roots and inheriting both Japanese and Bangladeshi cultures, which led her to shift her base back to Japan. Today, she lives deep in the mountains of Niigata, a place connected to her mother’s roots, where she practices farming and continues to deepen her understanding of the Japanese spirit through tea ceremony. Through her daily life, she shares the beauty of food, nature, and culture with audiences around the world to inspire them to connect with their very own. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
