BobBlast 452 - "How to Make a Polyptych into One Large Abstract Painting"

Weekly BobBlast Issue 452 How to Make a Polyptych Welcome Back to Another BobBlast! t feels great to be back in the studio! I was teaching workshops in Sarasota Florida, then the Bahamas for most of the month of February - so I am happy to be back. We posted photos and some videos during the Bahamas workshop, check out our Facebook page - Robert Burridge Studio! This BobBlast topic came directly out of a demo from my workshop in the Bahamas. Because of traveling with art supplies, it is necessary to keep the surfaces on the smaller side. So during my daily 9 inch by 9 inch improvisation warm-up exercises, I can paint multiples, then assemble them, with surprising visual results! My concept for this improv painting is non-objective abstract with color and drawing. The composition is Over-Lapping Squares and the Color Combo is Blue/Violet Dominant. I arrange four 9 inch by 9 inch squares of watercolor paper in a larger square - a Polyptych. I paint on all 4 painting simultaneously. I am, right now NOT thinking about making one painting. I am painting 4 different paintings that are related in color and design. As I work in different layers of color, that's when the improvisation begins! I smile while I arrange the painted squares - exploring the variations as I turn the paintings, aligning the sides and seeing what I get!
