Spring 2026 Saginaw Subdivision Railfanning

Yeah I know some of the clips are technically on the Detroit Sub, I don't care lol Well, here's the second Saginaw Sub railfanning video of 2026! Spring was a really turbulent time for the Saginaw Sub, as first of all, plans were made to shut down both North and East yards in Plymouth due to high operating costs and the fact that no industries remained in Plymouth. All local traffic would've been rerouted, and CSX L310 would be abolished. The rerouting would've put an end to local traffic running past my local spot, but thankfully, this change was reverted. As of the making of this video, L310, L311, and L315 are all still running as usual in and out of Plymouth. However, closing Plymouth's yards wasn't the only planned change. CSX shut down Barr Yard near Chicago, which led to the temporary abolishing of M326 and 327, the Grand Rapids manifests. All traffic to/from Grand Rapids would be rerouted up the Saginaw Sub to Detroit and then get put on L302 and to Grand Rapids, and vice versa. Because of this traffic increase, 4 new manifests were rerouted to/from Detroit, being M506, M507, M567, and M568. It also wasn't uncommon to find giant or extra L302s and L303s to deal with the increased traffic. However, this arrangement wouldn't last long, as CSX eventually reinstated 326 and 327. All 4 new manifests would no longer run to/from Detroit, and resume running to their original destinations. The final change of the spring was the re-symboling of Plymouth Sub manifests L302 and L303. L302 became M328, while L303 became M329. While I think this change was necessary, as the "L" designation for these manifests was rather misleading, it still doesn't feel right calling them M328 and M329, but I'll get used to it eventually. Fittingly, the last L302 I ever saw had a YN2 leader and CSX 911 trailing, a nice send off for the old symbol. If these changes weren't enough, several really cool trains came through as well! These included heritage units, lots of YN2s, and even an ex-Pan Am Railways, former CSX C40-8 taking a detour through Michigan on its way to LTEX for inevitable scrapping. This was probably the first time since 2016 that a standard cab Dash 8 ran up the Saginaw Sub, and will probably never happen again. Also best horn of the year so far at 12:07 Alright, I've yapped WAY too much. Thank you all for watching, this is Michiganrailfan_57 signing off, have a great day!
