Romans 12:1-2 | Knowing God's Will | Pastor Zach Lamberson

This sermon on Romans 12:1–2 teaches that knowing God’s will begins with surrendering to Him. One of the greatest obstacles to faith is that God cannot be perceived through the physical senses. However, faith is not believing without evidence; it is recognizing spiritual realities through their effects, much like seeing the effects of wind or gravity. Christians are called to trust in the unseen, eternal realm rather than the temporary world around them. Paul’s appeal in Romans 12 follows his explanation of God’s mercy shown through Christ’s sacrifice. In response to that mercy, believers are urged to offer themselves as “living sacrifices,” surrendering their own desires, ambitions, and plans to God. This daily choice requires yielding one’s will and recognizing that such devotion is a reasonable response to God’s love. The passage also warns against conforming to worldly thinking. Instead, Christians must allow God to transform them through the renewing of their minds, primarily through Scripture. As believers align their thoughts with God’s Word, their lives are changed from the inside out. According to the sermon, discerning God’s will is the result of this process: surrender, transformation, and spiritual growth. God’s will includes salvation, spiritual discipline, serving others, and growing in faith. While God may speak through circumstances, impressions, or dreams, He most consistently speaks through His Word. Ultimately, God’s will is always good, purposeful, and aimed at leading believers into maturity and a deeper relationship with Him.
