Luke 15:32 | Prodigal Son | Pastor Brian Van Cleave
Luke 15:32 reveals the heart of God more clearly than almost any other verse in the parable of the Prodigal Son. The father says, “It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” These words show that God is not a distant judge waiting to condemn people for their failures. Instead, He is a loving Father who longs for His children to return to Him. The prodigal son had made serious mistakes. He rejected his father, wasted his inheritance, and lived in rebellion. By human standards, many would say he did not deserve another chance. Yet the father did not focus on the son's failures. He focused on the fact that his son had come home. Before the son could earn forgiveness or prove himself worthy, the father ran to him, embraced him, and welcomed him back into the family. This is the heart of God. There is no sin, failure, shame, or brokenness so great that it places a person beyond His mercy when they genuinely turn to Him. God's grace is greater than our worst mistakes. He does not delight in punishment; He delights in restoration. The celebration in the parable shows that heaven rejoices when even one lost person returns to God. Many people believe they must clean themselves up before coming to God, but the prodigal son teaches the opposite. He came home in his broken condition, and his father received him with open arms. God's love reaches further than our failures, and His forgiveness is deeper than our guilt. No matter how far someone has wandered, God stands ready to receive them, restore them, and call them His beloved child. The message of Luke 15 is that no one is beyond the reach of God's redeeming love.
