2 Peter 3:10-18 | The End is Near | Sojourn | Pastor Zach Lamberson

Peter closes his second letter by addressing the coming “Day of the Lord” and how believers should respond to the certainty of Christ’s return. The sermon opens by noting that Christians throughout history, including Peter himself, have lived with the expectation that Jesus could return soon. While many predictions have been wrong, we are still right to live expectantly because Scripture repeatedly teaches readiness. Three signs often associated with the end times are highlighted: the restoration of Israel as a nation, growing movements toward global political and economic systems, and technological advances that make worldwide communication and monitoring possible. These developments are presented not as proof of exact timing but as reminders that biblical prophecy appears increasingly relevant. The heart of Peter’s message is not speculation but transformation. God is patient, delaying judgment to allow more people to come to salvation, yet His intervention in history is certain. The Day of the Lord will arrive unexpectedly and ultimately culminate in a new heaven and new earth where righteousness dwells. Because the present world is temporary and destined to pass away, believers are called to loosen their grip on material things and set their affections on eternal realities. Peter asks, “What manner of persons ought you to be?” The answer is a life marked by holiness, godliness, peace, and faithful obedience. Expectation of Christ’s return should fuel evangelism, prayer, and spiritual growth. Peter also warns against false teachers who twist Scripture and urges believers to remain grounded in God’s Word. His final exhortation is simple yet profound: grow continually in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ, giving Him glory now and forever. Amen.
