Flying Arizona's Turbulent Mogollon Rim & Roosevelt Lake

Come fly with me as my son Owen and I take a two day flight through some of Arizona's most rugged mountains, canyons and lake areas from Flagstaff to the cliffs of the Mogollon Rim. We land in Payson for the hundred dollar burger (or French toast) avoiding "buzzards" on the runway and the areas windy conditions. After leaving the mountains of Payson we head through the valleys that take us to Roosevelt Lake and its blue waters and we land on the Grape Vine desert airstrip. Then it's decision time, airplane camp under our light sport AeroTrek A240 wings, turn back to Flagstaff or head the Eastern Arizona and the White Mountains. We chose that latter and endured what seemed like hours flying through some very turbulent air with updrafts and downdrafts carrying us all over the sky. Our first option was to land in Show Low but we experienced turbulence, some serious wind shear and a rough landing. But all is good and we spend the night there rather than a more remote airport. In the morning we do some landings and touch and go's in Taylor then head over the high desert with sights of East Clear Creek and the San Francisco Peaks. Enjoy the flight!
