CUB-CURIOUS. Is a CUB Steve's next Airplane?

After 21 years in the F-15 and thousands of hours in the 737, I did something I've never done: my first front-seat lesson in a Cub. My instructor is my good friend Queque from ‪@PatagoniaBushPilots‬ — one of the most experienced bush instructors in Patagonia — and the airplane is a ‪@cubcrafters‬ Carbon Cub experimental FX-2, which Queque calls "the Ferrari of Cubs." We cover his "speed, ball, outside" scan, why the easiest airplanes to fly can be the most dangerous, coordination and adverse yaw exercises, slow flight at 49 mph into a stiff wind, steep turns using the flaps like a bush pilot, and my first two landings — happy feet and all. Filmed at Nail Springs Ranch during the CubCrafters Creators Event. Huge thanks to Brad and the CubCrafters team for trusting us with the airplane, and to Jackie for putting on a wonderful event. This one isn't about showing off — it's about being a student again, and perhaps the start of my journey toward a Cub of my own????
