Windy sail to Burnham-on-Crouch & motor back to Tollesbury the 1st overnight trip on our new boat
Hi & welcome back to East Coast Sailing. This episode shows part 2 of a recent sail to Burnham - On - Crouch as we explore the town briefly as well as the return journey back to Tollesbury. you will be please there is no rapping in this video. I had a fantastic birthday sail on my new boat down to Burnham, the temperatures were just below freezing with over 20 knots of wind. I recently upgraded from a 22 foot Newbridge Venturer and this was my second time sailing after a disastrous 1st outing..... check the other video for what happened. The return journey back to Tollesbury was the complete opposite with no wind & flat calm so I had to motor back. This video gives you a good incite into UK marina life on a wintery night with a beautiful clear sky illuminated with a full moon. When we arrived in Burnham, we had some pub grub at the Swallow tail marina restaurant and walked off the heavy lunch in the final hours of daylight. We explored the small town popping to the old cinema. After a sweet fuelled cinema session it was safe to say Hugo was having a hypo. We walked back to the marina and met up with some old friends we hadn't seen in a few years followed by lots of beers & G&T's. After a short bleary walk back to the boat skidding around on the frosty gangways, we got the Webasto heater on and a 2kw electric fan getting the cabin toasty for some well needed rest. Poor Hugo had missed his nap and didn't know which was was up. My singing finally pushed him over the edge :). After a night of not much sleep as Hugo was kicking me on the hour, I left the wife and little on the dock so they could drive home and began the 4 hour windless journey back to Tollesbury under engine. I arrived at the Buxey Sands an hour before high water compared to HW the day before and only had 1.1M under the keel as opposed to 3M the day before. Pretty shallow but id only attempt this on a flat calm day with no waves under engine. This little shortcut saved 1.5 hours on the journey. I also give a product review on the new Crew Saver 290 life jacket I had purchased for winter sailing as well as my new safety lines. Hope you enjoy the episode and the relaxing footage of all the things you typically see along the way and please leave any comments on what you would like to see from the channel. All the best Rob!!
