ENGLANDS Best Kept Secret Sailing to Maldon
Welcome to EAST COAST SAILING, I’m Rob and in today’s episode I’m heading for a family sailing trip to the historic town of Maldon in sub zero temperatures. We’re leaving my home port of Tollesbury and traveling down the River Blackwater. We will be sailing past Mersea Island, Bradwell On Sea, passing Radio Caroline the infamous pirate radio station on a boat called Rosses Revenge, past St Lawrence, Osea Island, Northey Island where the historic battle of Maldon took place, past Heybridge Basin and finally landing in Maldon where we would be staying for the night. I’ll discuss some navigation to keep you safe as we nearly ran aground as we entered one of the shallowest and narrowest marinas in the world. We had an amazing night stay, very peaceful and learnt about the rich history Maldon had to offer. We also learnt about the fattest man of England Mr Edward Bright. We also go for one of the best afternoon teas in an igloo at the famous Mrs Salisbury Tearoom. I’ll also give you a run down of all the things you can do When you visit Maldon including the abundance of great places to eat. I have also included some stunning drone footage of Tollesbury and the approach to Maldon to help with safe pilotage if traveling by boat! If you would like to join me for a sail across the North Sea in winter over the Easter Bank Holiday, then leave a comment and I’ll get back to you.
