Hi everyone, it's back with me, Ndhuk Tri, who will take you on a closer look at the lives of people living in transmigration villages and remote villages in Indonesia. In this episode, we're visiting a village located on the banks of the Kapuas River. This village is called Punggur Kapuas, a local transmigration area that began to be populated in the 1980s and 1990s. Administratively, this village is located in Punggur Kapuas Village, Sungai Kakap District, Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. Interestingly, this local transmigration village is located not far from Pontianak City, the capital of West Kalimantan Province, only about 26 kilometers away. Because it's a local transmigration area, the people who live here come from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. There are Dayak, Malay, Javanese, Balinese, Chinese, and many more. Despite their differences, they live side by side in harmony to this day. This area is characterized by tidal flats that significantly influence the lives of its residents. Therefore, most residents depend on coconut farming for their livelihood. Some of the coconuts are sold as fresh fruit, some are processed into copra, and some are made into coconut sugar to increase their selling value. Well, this time we were fortunate to meet coconut farmers who independently produce brown sugar daily in their simple kitchens. From here, they turn this natural resource into a source of income to meet their daily needs. For them, the freshly tapped palm sap from coconut flowers is a priceless treasure. This natural liquid is then processed through a lengthy process to become brown sugar ready for sale. What is this palm sap, or palm sugar, called palm sugar in your area?
