Le campane di Gerenzano (VA)

The first mention of a church in Gerenzano dates back to 932, when the medieval chapel was subordinate to the church dedicated to St Stephen, built more than 30 km towards Como. The church is first mentioned as being dedicated to the Apostle Peter in a document of 1178, where the presence of many priests gathered in a college of canons is mentioned. The parish of Gerenzano began to be identified with the double dedication to Saints Peter and Paul in the early 16th century, when the Romanesque building was enlarged to three naves. The distance from the mother church in Appiano Gentile (Italy) led the archbishop of Milan to grant the church a prestigious title in 1576. The church was restored in the early 18th century and in 1791 became the seat of a vicariate. d' - e' - f' sharp - g' - a' The slender 16th-century tower had three bells dating back several centuries, which were lowered from the tower and replaced in 1850 by a new valuable D major scale concert cast by Bizzozero of Varese in its new location. The six bells were among the first achievements of the new foundry. During the restoration in 2000, the smallest bell was inexplicably removed from the bell tower and is now in a room, resting on a pallet. The bell is of great importance, as it is the only one in the historical complex to be dated. The third bell was recast in 1982 by Barigozzi, as the original had cracked during a concert. I am ringing the five bells from the computer in the sacristy, performing the traditional local concert. The parish priest was on holiday, so his deputy invited me and friends to have lunch with him after ringing the beautiful village bells. The present church is the result of an 1865 extension, to which a new part was added in 1913. On the outside, the building is in full neoclassical style, its façade introduced by a pronaos. The light colours anticipate a bright interior in the shape of a Latin cross, covered by vaults entirely frescoed during the World War II, in full conformity with the original Renaissance structure. #bell #church #catholic #italy #bells #view #documentary #storm #history #landscape #catholicchurch #cinematic Music track: Epic Cinematic Trailer by Infraction [No Copyright Music] / Giants League
