Brandon Nakashima overturned Nick Kyrgios in the day's other semifinal at UTS Rio presented by XP. The American, competing in his very first UTS, secured a 3-1 victory over the Australian (14-18, 20-10, 17-12, 20-10). It was a highly anticipated semifinal between Brandon Nakashima and Nick Kyrgios, reminiscent of their 2022 Wimbledon clash where the Australian triumphed in five sets in the round of 16. Their Brazilian duel also lived up to all expectations after a strong start from Kyrgios, whose backhand was dialed in and who looked as sharp as ever on the serve-and-volley. Ultimately, that was his only moment of grace. Nakashima dominated the rest of the match, proving far superior in his movement and the quality of his serving. He swept both the second and fourth quarters by the exact same score: 20-10. In his first UTS final, the American will face Guto Miguel, the 17-year-old Brazilian prodigy to whom he lost in sudden death during the "Melee" phase.
