Guto Miguel beat Brandon Nakashima 3-2 in quarters (13-12, 19-8, 12-18, 11-14, 2-0 in Sudden Death) of UTS Rio presented by XP, backing up his win over Kyrgios with a second straight victory to close out the Melee unbeaten. Guto Miguel raced through the second quarter 19-8, converting his bonus card and winning 83 percent of his return points, before Nakashima hit back to win the third 18-12 and the fourth 14-11, tying the match at two quarters apiece. Guto Miguel closed it out in Sudden Death, winning 100 percent of his points on both serve and return. Despite fewer winners than Nakashima, seven to 11, he made far fewer unforced errors, 29 to 39, and finished with more total points won, 57 to 52. The result moves Guto Miguel to 2-0 in the Melee and secures his place in Saturday's Final Four, a day after beating his childhood idol Nick Kyrgios in the same format.
